Course Description
- Section 1 (2 hours)
Introduction- Sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and examples. Basic parameters of the interference phenomenon and basic EMC quantities. International guidelines, regulations, and standards for addressing EMC problems - Section 2 (6 hours)
Mechanisms of electromagnetic interference and shielding methods- Shielding from magnetostatic and electrostatic fields- Shielding techniques from plane waves- Interference from ‘near’ fields- Standards for analyzing and studying external electromagnetic interference through openings in the metal casing of devices and techniques for dealing with the problem of interference - Section 3 (7 hours)
Electromagnetic interference between individual units within a device and methods for addressing it- Analysis and study, in the time and frequency domain, of the phenomenon of mutual interference between signal transmission lines due to electromagnetic coupling in the low and high frequency range.- Rules for structuring lines to minimize interference. – Basic EMC rules and guidelines for PCB structure. – Switching noise. Phenomenon and countermeasures - Section 4 (11 hours)
EMC measurements – Installation specifications – measurement equipment and limits- Measurements in outdoor installations (OATS) and chambers (anechoic, TEM, GTEM, resonance)- Radiated emission measurements- Conducted emission measurements- Immunity measurements in fields, currents, pulses, and discharges- Lab course
