Who can apply?
- Graduates of Departments of Physics, Computer Science and Technology, Informatics and Telecommunications,
- Diploma holders from the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Technology, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Electronic Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, Information and Communication Systems Engineering.
- Graduates of the Hellenic Air Force Academy.
- Holders of first cycle degrees from institutions not mentioned in the above categories with a programme of study relevant to that of the MSc. The relevance of the programme of study is examined by the Three-Member Selection and Examination Committee.
How many will be accepted?
The maximum number of students per academic year is 20.
Application procedure
- In May, the School of Physics announces positions through an open call process for the admission of graduates to the Postgraduate Program. The call specifies the admission requirements, categories of graduates and number of places available, admission procedure, scoring and selection criteria, application deadlines and the required supporting documents. The call also specifies the written examinations where required, based on the relevance of the candidate’s first cycle degree, the syllabus of the courses to be examined, the examination dates, the grading method, and their contribution to the candidate’s scoring.
- The call for applications for postgraduate students is published both on the School’s and the MSc’s website.
- Applications, together with the necessary supporting documents, are submitted electronically to the Secretariat of the School of Physics, as specified in the announcement.
- Simultaneous enrollment in a second postgraduate program of the School of Physics is not permitted and, therefore, the registration of a postgraduate student is not accepted if they have applied for or are registered in another postgraduate program of the School of Physics.
Admission Requirements
The following are necessary requirements for admission to the MSc program:
- Candidates must have graduated with a first-cycle degree grade greater than or equal to 6/10.
- Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of English language, while foreign applicants must also have sufficient knowledge of Greek language. Applicants who do not hold valid certificates in English (at least level B2) are required to take an exam to test their ability to translate scientific texts with ease, which is conducted by the Department of Physics during the entrance exam period following the application period. The same applies to foreign candidates who, if they do not hold valid certificates of proficiency in Greek, are required to take an exam to test their ability to understand Greek sufficiently.
- Applicants must send two (2) letters of recommendation to the email address of the Postgraduate Program, as specified in the announcement, one (1) of which must be from a professor of the Department (or School) from which they graduated and the other from a lecturer in the Department (or School) from which they graduated or from any employers they may have worked for.
- Candidates whose training in Electronics and/or Telecommunications is deemed insufficient based on their curriculum must take special examinations in one (1) or both (2) of the relevant courses, which are determined by the School Assembly and are listed together with the corresponding examination material in the announcement (see scoring criterion f). Candidates’ training is considered adequate when the material they have been taught according to their curriculum covers at least 80% of the exam material of the corresponding special course. It should be noted that the special examinations are a preliminary stage in the admission process. Only in case of success – grades above the minimum (5/10) in all courses – is the candidate considered a co-candidate with the other candidates.
- For candidates who are graduates of departments or schools of a related subject that are not explicitly mentioned in the announcement, the Three-Member Selection and Examination Committee is responsible for assessing the relevance of their studies. If the relevance of their studies is deemed sufficient, the same admission criteria (a to g) apply as for other candidates.
The criteria for scoring and selecting applicants include [maximum number of points: 100]:
| Admission criterion | Points | |
| a | Overall Degree / Diploma grade (undergraduate studies) | 0 – 25 |
| b | Time taken to obtain the degree in relation to the minimum required | 0 – 10 |
| c | Grades in undergraduate courses related to the subjects of Electronics and Telecommunications | 0 – 20 |
| d | Performance in the Bachelor’s or Diploma’s Thesis relevant to the MSc programme | 0 – 10 |
| e | Other qualifications (professional experience in a relevant field, research experience, publications, papers, other degrees, attendance at seminars/conferences related to the subject of the MSc programme, etc.) | 0 – 5 |
| f | Performance in the entrance examination for the specialised courses on “Electronic Circuits” and “Telecommunications Systems”. If the candidate is not examined because their training is deemed sufficient in the above subjects, the corresponding performance grades from their undergraduate studies are taken into account | 10 – 20 |
| g | Interview | 0 – 10 |
The evaluation or scoring of the above criteria is done with an accuracy of two (2) decimal places and is included in the Appendix of the Regulations of the Postgraduate Program. The final list of successful and reserve candidates, once approved by the School, is posted on the websites of the School of Physics and of the Postgraduate Program.
Registration Procedure
- The Department Secretariat, upon posting the list of successful candidates, announces the dates on which applications for enrollment of new postgraduate students are accepted, the enrollment procedure, and the necessary supporting documents.
- If a candidate does not register within the specified deadline, the omission to register is considered a refusal to accept the position, which is then filled by the next successful candidate.
- Upon registration, candidates are considered full-time graduate students of the Postgraduate Programme.
- Courses begin in the winter semester immediately after the first posting of the list of successful candidates.
